Scarabee Smart Security Lanes Enhance Munich Airport’s New CT-Equipped Checkpoint

On April 7, 2025, Munich Airport officially inaugurated its fully modernized central security checkpoint in Terminal 2, featuring 15 state-of-the-art Scarabee Smart Security Lanes integrated with Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX scanners. This milestone marks the culmination of a 2.5-year, five-phase construction project carried out while the terminal remained fully operational.

The new lanes, launched by the Southern Bavarian Aviation Authority just ahead of the Easter travel season, are designed to enhance both security and passenger convenience. The CT scanners enable up to four passengers to present their hand luggage simultaneously, eliminating the need to remove electronic devices and liquids. The advanced technology automatically detects explosives and provides 3D imagery, reducing manual checks and expediting the screening process

The €45 million upgrade, funded by the Free State of Bavaria, is part of a broader modernization plan extending to Terminal 1 by summer 2026 and including the airports in Nuremberg.

Scarabee is proud to have contributed to this significant enhancement of Munich Airport’s security infrastructure, delivering innovative solutions that improve efficiency and passenger experience.
