Scarabee is working on the large-scale installation of 27 SSL lanes at London Gatwick and Edinburgh Airport

In late 2022, Scarabee was commissioned as the system integrator to build and install 27 Security Screening Lanes (SSL) at London Gatwick and Edinburgh Airport. This project includes 19 lanes for London Gatwick, spread across two terminals, and 8 lanes for Edinburgh Airport (EDI).

The design of these lanes comes from JMT Technical. Together with Daifuku Logan and Scarabee, the process began to further develop the designs and start production at Scarabee’s factory in Hull, United Kingdom. Currently, lane 11 is nearly complete and is being prepared for the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), scheduled for Monday, September 30.

Status at London Gatwick

Scarabee has already delivered 5 lanes and is currently installing lanes 6 and 7, both of which will be handed over to the operational service in October. After this delivery, 12 more lanes will be installed, bringing the total to 19 lanes.

Status at Edinburgh Airport (EDI)

At the beginning of September, the third lane was successfully installed and delivered within a 14-day timeframe, without any issues. There are 5 more lanes to follow, bringing the total to 8 lanes by 2024.

The installation of the final lanes will begin in mid-March 2025, with completion expected in the second week of April 2025. By that time, a total of 27 JMT lanes will have been built and installed at London Gatwick and Edinburgh Airport.

With this expansion, both airports continue to modernize and optimize their security processes, thanks to the technical expertise and close collaboration between Scarabee, JMT Technical, and Daifuku Logan.
